Old Log Slit Drum

Standard Size 23+" long x  5.5"dia.

This  Log Drum is a beautiful piece carved and
tuned in the late 1980's.

We sell mostly  Djembe's from Ivory Coast, Senegal, Gambia and Bali but also occasionally sell some Nigerian , Ghana, and Ethiopian products.

This is a Ghana  Slit-wood drum, carved from a darker mahogany like  wood that carves, stains, and  polishes beautifully.  I do NOT think it is ebony (it is too light for that).
This slit drum is carved from one piece,  the 3 holes are for sound resonance.  The ends are for standing in a rack or to hold the drum one end under your arm the other in your hand (same arm), beating it with the other hand.   A helper could also hold it for you.
The beater is carved of the same wood and is solid.   It creates a variety of tones depending on which side of the drum is hit.   Varieties of sounds come from hitting the drum in various spots.   The sound is not drum like but more like a musical note (say "bong").   Two or three are occasionally
played together making a sound like a xylophone.    It comes with one beater.

This one has been on display for several years and is not typical of what we get any longer.   It looks like it has a small patch on each end of the main hole, but it sounds and looks great.

Rather than put it on eBay I thought I would first offer it to customers that had bought from us before.

There were only two in this purchase.  I have just this one unpacked now,  and the other one is still to be unpacked from the container, and will be offered in a week or two.   It is smaller.

This drum measures about 23" long and 5 1/2" dia.   The beater
is 8 3/4" long.

The first person to offer $88.00 plus freight gets this one of a kind drum!
